KARACHI: Spinner Osama Basharat starred with a decisive spell while guiding Candyland into the quarter-finals of the third Naya Nazimabad Ramazan Cricket Tournament with a 10-run defeat of Shaboo Stars CC Quetta at the Lawai Cricket Stadium here on Friday night.

Candyland’s second success in three matches of Group ‘C’ was watched by a large turnout. After opting to bat first at the toss, Candyland made 127-8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Opener Farrukh Shehzad scored 36 from 34 balls with the aid of two fours and one six; Maqbool Ahmed made 31 off 38 balls with two boundaries and Abid Ali hit a 19-ball 20 with three fours and one six.

Slow left-armer Mohibullah and off spinner Atif Maqbool grabbed three wickets each for 11 and 20 runs, respectively.

Shaboo Stars finished at 117-9 in their response to the chase. Test opener Sami Aslam hit 39 from 44 balls with two sixes and one four as he played second fiddle to Mir Wise Tareen (32 off 17 balls, six fours and one six) in the opening stand of 41.

After both got out, the runs dried out as Osama returned excellent analysis of 3-12 in four overs with a maiden over to be adjudged man-of-the-match.
