TAXILA: A large number of people from different rural areas of Hassanabdal staged a protest against alleged corrupt practices of an official of revenue department.

Scores of angry protesters from Gherseen and adjoining areas gathered at TMA complex in hot and humid weather and staged protest in front of assistant commissioner office.

The corrupt officials openly demand Rs50,000 or above for issuing a genuine ‘fard’ and Rs100,000 or above for ‘intiqal’.

The protesters said the ‘patwaris’ touts allegedly handled revenue matters in district revenue department and earned thousands of rupees on daily basis but nobody took action against them.

Former unioun council Nazim Rafaqat Khan said the revenue official was true picture of traditional colonial system.

However the protesters dispersed peacefully after Assistant Commissioner Hassanabdal Syeda Ramallah Ali has assured them that the said revenue official (patwari) would be transferred without any further delay.
