Pakistani drug smuggler beheaded in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia on Wednesday beheaded a Pakistani convicted of heroin smuggling, despite arguments by rights experts that use of the death penalty in such cases violates international law.
Nazir Ahmed Sultan Ahmed was found guilty of smuggling the drug in his intestines, the interior ministry said in a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency.
Authorities carried out the sentence in the Red Sea city of Jeddah, it said.
According to AFP tallies, he is the 98th foreigner or Saudi national to be executed in the conservative Muslim kingdom this year.

The number of executions has surged compared with the 87 recorded by AFP for the whole of 2014, but still far below the record 192 which Amnesty International said were carried out in 1995.
Drug and murder convictions account for the bulk of executions in Saudi Arabia.
According to London-based Amnesty International, use of the death penalty for other than the “most serious crimes” – premeditated killings – violates international law.
Saudi court proceedings “fall far short” of global norms of fairness, according to the rights watchdog.
Under the conservative kingdom's strict version of Islamic sharia law, drug trafficking, rape, murder, armed robbery and apostasy are all punishable by death.
The interior ministry cites deterrence as the reason for carrying out the punishment.

Unfortunately drug smugglers don't take lessons from such beheading..may be because those who beheaded were being used by the drug traffickers and do not have sufficient knowledge about the drug due to low level of literacy.

If proved guilty, then should be executed!!! I'm saying this because I know i won't smuggle any heroine!!! Law should be followed to set an example.. Same should happen in Pakistan!!! If anybody even the CMs, PMs commit a crime, they should be punished!!! Period!!!

@anand Saudi Arabia does punish its own citizens for same crime. Unfortunatly not the rich Arab Kings. Law is too harsh but thats why Saudi Arabia has the least crimes in the world. Saudi Arabia should give a warning for death sentence if they commit same crime again.

Unfortunately, we are too soft on crimes so Pakistani criminals are continuously being punished on foreign lands. We must curb crimes on our own land and snub criminal leaving the country.

FACT: For 2014 according to Amnesty International there were at least 90 executions in Saudi Arabia:
"Most were executed for murder, but 38 had committed drugs offences. ABOUT HALF WERE SAUDI and the others were from Pakistan, Yemen, Syria, Jordan, India, Indonesia, Burma, Chad, Eritrea the Philippines and Sudan".

saudi citizens are regularly beheaded for the crimes,the number for saudi beheadings are far greater than expats beheading for the same crime.Any organised crime such as robbery using any weapon ,drugs business ,rape and intentional murder are all punishable by death.Thats why KSA has the least crime rate for the mentioned crimes.ofcourse there are other areas where saudis need to learn and do proper legislation such as industrial and domestic labour abuse etc.

Real question need be answered her is, how through is search at Pakistan airports. Is airport staff involved, are they doing their job. Such incidents bring shame to all law abiding hard working Pakistani workers overseas.
After all when someone travels to a country, laws of that county are applicable. No crying about it.

@Farhan Saudis have quota to meet, Pakistanis are easy targets. Pakistani people and leader busy licking Saudis ---. The whole world is complaining there in no fair and due process of justice in SA. Also harsh punishment deters nothing. Criminal and crime can never eradicated. Also remember there is a demand for drugs - most users are Saudis.
