QUETTA: Police claimed to have arrested on Monday three men for their suspected involvement in last year’s attacks on the Khalid and Samungli airbases in the city.

The arrests made in a pre-dawn raid on the suspects’ hideout in Eastern Bypass area was announced by Home Minister Mir Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti at a press conference.

CCPO Abdul Razzak Cheema was present.

The suspects were identified as Ali Gul alias Obaida Pathan, Rehman Wali and Zafarullah alias Muzaffar Jan. Mr Bugti said the three belonged to a banned militant organisation involved in terrorist attacks across the country.

He said Ali Gul and Rehman Wali carried head money of R1 million and Rs500,000, respectively, and were wanted to police for their involvement in heinous crimes, including the airbase attacks, bomb blasts at different places and targeted killings of policemen. Zafarullah faces charges in nine cases of murder, murder attempt, etc.

The minister said that raids would continue at suspected places for the arrest of wanted terrorists. “The Indian intelligence agency, RAW, is supporting terrorism in the country, particularly Balochistan, but security forces have foiled its conspiracies with the help of people.”

He said that previously law and order situation had improved to considerable extent in the province. But after the announcement of the implementation of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project, terrorists had resumed their activities in Balochistan.
