ADELAIDE: Former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie turned down a chance to coach South Australia on Monday, opting to remain at English county side Yorkshire and in position to consider a potential offer to coach England’s national squad.

Gillespie, 40, has been mentioned in British media as a replacement for Peter Moores, who is under pressure following England’s 1-1 Test series draw in the Caribbean.

England held a 68-run, first-innings lead at Bridgetown, but were all out for 123 in its second innings. That allowed the West Indies to win by five wickets Sunday with two days to spare.

Shortly after England’s loss in the final Test, Gillespie told the Yorkshire Post he had not applied to become a full-time coach his home state in the domestic Sheffield Shield competition, raising speculation he could be set to take the England reins.

Gillespie took 259 wickets in 71 Tests and 142 in 97 One-day Internationals in an international career.
