UMERKOT: The headmaster of a primary school near Ghulam Nabi Shah town was on Monday booked for sexually assaulting a girl student of class five. The case was registered when a medical check-up confirmed the assault.

The victim’s brother, Rasool Bux Kunbhar, resident of Bhawan Shah village, lodged the case with the Ghulam Nabi Shah police station against the headmaster.

Mr Kunbhar told police that his 10-year-old sister and another sister were students of the Government Primary School Bhawan Shah.

He said that the sisters went to school on Saturday (May 2) as a matter of course. When the school concluded, the headmaster stopped the 10-year-old sister in school. When all the students went out, he closed the windows and doors and sexually assaulted the girl. Upon reaching home, the victim’s sister told the family that she had been stopped at the school. They rushed to the school and found the suspect assaulting her. The suspect fled upon seeing the family.

District Education Officer Muhammad Ashraf Laghari told Dawn that the suspect had been suspended. On Tuesday, an inquiry committee would be formed for further action against him, he said.
