KARACHI: Five suspects were shot dead in an alleged encounter after an ‘attack’ on the convoy of former senior superintendent of police, Malir, Rao Anwar Ahmed on Saturday in Gulshan-i-Hadeed where a DSP was gunned down along with two policemen on Friday.

Rao Anwar told Dawn that he was going to the crime scene where the DSP was killed when 10 suspects attacked his armoured personnel carrier with a grenade before opening fire on it. He remained unhurt. In ‘retaliatory firing’ by his squad, five suspects were killed and the rest escaped.

Rao Anwar was transferred on Thursday night over charges of ‘misusing’ his authority following

his ‘explosive’ press conference against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.
