GUJRAT: The Punjab government is yet to appoint the Gujrat DPO, a post fell vacant on April 16 after the transfer of Rai Ijaz Ahmed reportedly on political grounds.

SP (Headquarters) Kamran Mumtaz is holding the officiating charge of the DPO.

Sources said the Punjab government had asked the provincial police chief a few days back to again appoint Rai Ijaz as DPO, Gujrat, but he (Rai Ijaz) reportedly refused the offer.

The Punjab government had not interviewed any police officer for the DPO post, but they said the posting might be made in the coming week.

The post of Regional Police Officer, Gujranwala, has also been vacant since the retirement of Syed Dilawar Abbas on April 6.

Sources said that interviews of four senior police officers, including Syed Hussain Asghar, Ghulam Muhammad Dogar and Salman Chaudhry, had been conducted, but no decision has so far been made in this regard.
