HYDERABAD: India’s tennis star Sania Mirza has termed her marriage to Pakistan cricketer Shoiab Malik as well as the switch to doubles tennis the most pivotal decisions of her life.

“Getting married in 2010 was one,” she said in an interview to The Times of India when asked what she views as her two most crucial decisions.

“It was a crucial time in my career and I had almost quit playing tennis due to wrist injury. I was not able even lift a comb. I think six months after marriage Shoaib said that I should play again. I was not at all thinking about tennis, I think my racquets were in the basement.

“I then started playing again and my wrist was better. I did play well at Wimbledon. The second decision was to give up singles and concentrate on doubles. I started doing well with different partners and it was like a dream come true for me,” Sania said.

Sania also said it was a great feeling to have returned as the World No. 1 on the same court where she had won her first ever title.

“It's indeed a great feeling. It's just like God has written this script for me. God helped me to win the first title here and he made me No. 1. He did so many great things in my life. I am very fortunate,” she said.
