FAISALABAD: Robbers shot dead two security guards and the cashier of a bank in a Rs700,000 heist at Manawala on Wednesday.

Eyewitnesses said four armed motorcyclists came to Allied Bank’s Manawala branch and two of them barged into the building resorting to firing. The gunshots frightened the shopkeepers as the robbers standing outside also kept firing shots in the air.

Saleem, a visitor who was injured in firing, told reporters that the armed men opened fire at guard Mahmood and cashier Anees and both died on the spot. Another guard was injured and was shifted to Allied Hospital where his condition was pronounced stable.

The robbers took away Rs700,000, he said.

City Police Officer Sohail Habib Tajik told Dawn that two guards Zafarullah Khan of Chak 243-RB and Mahmood of Pir Mahal and cashier Mohammad Anees of Chak 196-RB were killed by robbers.

Madina Town SP Malik Awais told reporters that robbers had escaped with Rs700,000 to Rs800,000. The police would trace them with the help of the CCTV footage, he added.
