SHIKARPUR: The recent unearthing of a bomb-making factory in Abdul Khalique Pindrani Brohi village of the Sultankot area and the subsequent arrest of suspects involved in the Jan 30 bombing of Shikarpur’s central imambargah was a breakthrough in eliminating the network of terrorist outfits in Sindh.

This was stated by Inspector-General of Police Ghulam Haider Jamali while speaking to journalists at a reception hosted by Shikairpur SSP Saqib Ismail Memon at his residence on Monday.

Referring to the unrest among the Shia community in Shikarpur, he said it was wrong to say that the pace of investigation into the imambargah bombing was slow, adding that not only the clue to the actual culprits had been found but those linked with the terrorist network had either been arrested or identified. He said suspects of other acts of terrorism in Sindh including the Ghulam Shah Marri shrine bomb attack and the Shabirabad (previously Napierabad) incident had also been arrested.

The IGP said that the Sindh police and other law enforcement agencies were making joint efforts to curb terrorism and other criminal activities including kidnapping for ransom and extortion across the province in general and Karachi in particular.

He said action was being taken against all terrorists and criminals without considering their political or religious affiliation.

He claimed that a remarkable reduction in heinous crimes was noted after launching of operations in Shikarpur, Karachi, Hyderabad, Jamshoro and other areas.

SUKKUR: At a press conference held in the office of the Sukkur DIG, the Sindh police chief said the law and order situation in Karachi had registered a significant improvement due to the Rangers-led operation, which would continued until lasting peace was restored to that city.

He said terrorists and criminals were using more sophisticated arms and equipment than those possessed by the Sindh police but now police were suitably equipped with modern weapons, strong vehicles and helicams to detect and overrun criminals’ hideouts.
