LAHORE: Multan registered a 6-5 victory against Sargodha on penalty strokes in one of the most thrilling encounters at the NBP Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) U-25 Inter-regional Hockey Championship here on Saturday.

Both Multan and Sargodha were tied at 3-3 at the end of regulation time with the former cashing in on three penalty strokes while their rivals capitalized on two when five penalty strokes were allotted to each side.

The two sides remained on even keel in the first session (2-2) as well as at the end of the half time (2-2) before being tied at 3-3 in the third session with both team once again levelling at the same score at the end of the regulation time.

In the other match, Faizan guided Gujranwala to an 8-1 win against Rawalpindi with the thee-goal scorer striking in seventh, 35th and 51st minutes. Nohaiz Malik (14th), Muzammil Bhatti (20th), Umar Sheikh (53rd), M Arslan (48th) and Afsar Tariq (53rd) also scored for the winning side with Rana Jabbar netting the lone goal in the 44th minute for the losing side.

Sahiwal trounced D.G Khan 4-0 in the third match of the day with Azeem (11th), Javed (13th), Kashif Shah (18th) and Zaman (51st) scoring for the winning side.

In the fourth match, which also remained a one-sided affair, three-goal M Tousiq helped Faisalabad crush Bahawalpur 9-2 with Ejaz (7th, 49th), Ayub Ali (32nd), Aleem Bilal (35th), Abubakar (48th), Sohail Anjum (50th) being main contributors.

Earlier, PHF president Akhtar Rasool inaugurated the championship with Anjum Saeed, Danish Kaleem, Atif Bashir, Parveen Sikander Gill and Ajmal Khan being in attendance in the opening ceremony.
