PESHAWAR: A First Information Report (FIR) against Tehreek-i-Taliban's (TTP) Geedar faction and its commander Umar Naray was registered on Saturday in the attack on Imamia mosque in Hayatabad which left 20 dead.

The FIR which was filed on the grounds of terrorism, murder and various other charges, was registered by the Counter Terrorism Department through Hayatabad's Station House Officer (SHO) at Sharki police station.

The attack took place nearly two weeks after a suicide attack killed 60 people at a mosque in Shikarpur town of Sindh.

Umar Naray, alias Umar Khalifa Adinzai who is hiding in Afghanistan, was also involved in the attack on Peshawar's Army Public school in December last year which left more than 140 people dead. “He was directing the suicide bombers and the attack group,” security officials had said.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General Nasir Khan Durrani had told journalists that four to five militants had entered the mosque by scaling a wall after removing the razor wire.

A cellphone video of the attack on the Imamia mosque shows militants entering the prayer room and firing at worshippers, followed by a suicide blast.

One of the militants blew himself up in the mosque’s veranda and two inside the building. One of them was captured by people and shot dead by a security guard. His suicide vest was later defused by bomb disposal unit official.
