GUJRANWALA: Computerised driving licences of all the districts of Punjab will be issued from Lahore and licence branches in districts will only forward the data of the applicants online to the Lahore office after completing the procedure.

The plan was in the pipeline since 2009 but it could not be implemented due to certain issues.

Chief Traffic Officer Asif Zafar Cheema said the plan would be implemented after its finalisation, however, the learner licences would be issued from the district licence branches. The licences would be dispatched to applicants by post from Lahore office. Meanwhile, the traffic police launched a crackdown on motorcyclists using helmet with black visor and issued tickets to more than 76 of them.

The chief traffic officer said the Interior Ministry had already banned the use of helmet with black visor under the National Action Plan after Peshawar and Karachi terror incidents.

He said the shopkeepers had also been warned to avoid the sale of helmets with black visor.

REMAND: A court sent PML-N Ghakkhar Town senior vice-president Zahid Inayat Butt alias Tuma Butt and his relative Tanvir Dar alias Tipu to the Central Jail on 14 days judicial remand in the case of firing at a bus.

The court accepted their bail applications in another case of aerial firing in a wedding ceremony and directed them to submit surety bonds worth Rs30,000 each.

SUPERVISORS: The district administration appointed supervisors in vegetable and fruit markets to implement official rates and issued a notification in this regard.
