FAISALABAD: Jaranwala police will launch an internship programme for undergraduate students to improve police image and tackle the shortage of staff.

Jaranwala Division is considered the biggest town of the district having seven police stations — Balochni, Khurrianwala, Jaranwala City and Saddar, Sattiana Rodala Road and Lundianwala.

The division is being governed by one superintendent of police (SP) and two deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) — Jaranwala and Khurrianwala circles.

All educational institutes of the division have been asked to submit applications of the students seeking internship. Students of BCS, BSc (computer science) and BCom will be the first priority; ICS and D.com second and DBMS, COA (Ms Office, Corel Draw and Inpage) will be the third priority for the internship.

Jaranwala SP Arif Shahbaz said first time in the history of the police, the internship was being launched. He said it would improve the police image through educated students; besides improving its working following the staff shortage.

He said the three-week internship would be unpaid, however, the police department would issue certificates to all the enrolled students.

Initially, he said the offices of Jaranwala SP and the circle DSP had been selected for internship. Applicants could also directly submit their applications to the Jaranwala police.

A committee comprising retired police employees has also been set up in the Jaranwala division to improve security measures following terror threats as the police have been facing the staff shortage.
