GUJRAT: The district government has completed the acquisition of 10 acres of land in Jalalpur Jattan for the establishment of a sports stadium in the second major town of Gujrat tehsil as the Punjab government has already allocated Rs117 million for the project.

DCO Liaquat Ali Chatha, MNA Nawabzada Mazhar Ali Khan, MPA Moin Nawaz Warraich and local PML-N leaders visited the site along with officials of the departments concerned.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had pledged to establish the sports stadium to cater to the needs of the youth of the area during his visit to the town about a year back.

The provincial government has so far released only Rs63 million out of which Rs55 million have been spent on the acquisition of land along Jalalpur Jattan bypass while rest of the amount is yet to be released.

The sports stadium will have separate grounds for cricket, hockey, football, jogging track and mini-open gym.

The infrastructure has been designed by the buildings department which was shown to the visiting officials of the district government as well as elected representatives by the engineer concerned.

The University of Gujrat and Nawaz Sharif Medical College are also only five kilometers away from Jalalpur Jattan town.
