ISLAMABAD: Gunmen in a Punjab village shot dead a member of the Ahmadi religious minority on Saturday, five days after a Muslim leader denounced Ahmadis on a popular television show.
Luqman Ahad Shehzad was shot in the back of the head near Bhiri Shah Rehman village, a small community of Ahmadis in the Gujranwala district, said Saleemud Din, a spokesman of the community.
He is the eleventh person killed for being Ahmadi in Pakistan this year.

In 1974, a Pakistani law declared them non-Muslims and made it possible to jail Ahmadis for “posing as a Muslim” or “offending a Muslim's feelings”.
They are often denounced by Muslim clerics and targeted by violent extremists. Some clerics promise that killing Ahmadis earns the killer a place in heaven and distribute leaflets listing their home addresses.

On Monday, Muslim leader Syed Arif Shah Owaisi appeared on a popular morning television show hosted by Pakistani host Aamir Liaquat Hussain.
“This enemy is a common enemy and is an enemy of all of Pakistan. And this enemy is the sect of Qadiyani,” Owaisi said, using a derogatory term for Ahmadis.
“They are the ones blaspheming against the holy prophet (pbuh). All us Muslims should recognise that enemy.”
Blasphemy is punishable by death in Pakistan. Scores of people have been lynched after being accused of blasphemy.
Saturday's killing was the second time Hussain's show has hosted religious leaders denouncing Ahmadis. In 2008, he hosted scholars who called for the Ahmadis to be killed. Within a day, two prominent Ahmadis had been shot dead.

Here is a litmus test for the resolve that everyone has shown since the Peshawar incident. Amir Liaquat Hussain needs to be arrested and tried for inciting violence from his platform. This is not freedom of speech, this is hate mongering. His TV channel should cancel his show for good. The maulvi who had called Ahmadis the enemy of Islam needs to be arrested and tried for first degree murder and hanged.
The next step is enforcing a code of conduct on TV channels who are openly allowing the spread of hatred through their programs. This is the test of the resolve. Lets see how we as a nation handle it.

Who are we to call anybody a "non-Muslim", and even if they are considered to be non-Muslims are we as Muslims not responsible for their safety in our country. All minorities including religious minorities are protected according to Islamic teachings (laws). Why is it when our (Sunni's) children are killed by terrorists we feel such pain and why is it that when our neighbor's children are killed we are okay with it because their beliefs are different? If the government is serious about attacking extermism in the country then it must arrest Syed Arif Shah Owaisi, and charge him with inciting terrorism; and if it serious about media not giving exposure to such extremists, then it must also arrest Aamir Liaquat Hussain as this the second time this has happened due to his show. If the government fails to take strict action against these two, then all its recent pronouncements on terrorism are mere lip service, and an insult to the victims of the Peshawar Massacre.

Our media has refused to regulate itself and show maturity. While I totally agree with them, that they have been threatened and forced by terror organisations to report things, they must instead tell authorities they are being threatened. Though in situations like that the media is not responsible however in this Amir Liaqat case they are and it to me shows, the media has to be regulated.

@Zia Khan Obviously, you do not know that Ahmadies played a very important role in the creation of Pakistan. For example, Muhammad Zafarullah Khan is credited with the drafting of 'Pakistan Resolution'. He was the First Foreign Minister of Pakistan and presented the Pakistan case admirably at the UN. He was, of course, an Ahmadi.

Arif was just expressing his opinion on the show. In no way, he can be accused of inciting violence as I have watched the program myself. In order to provide juctice, killer should be arrested and tried in court of law. Arif and Amir are both innocent.
People need to be careful hurling accusations against anyone because if accusations untrue may become sins answerable in thehereafter.

Here we go again...We are yet to see any visible action by the government and the courts about the recent killings of the christian couple and another person is killed in cold-blood to "save" Islam. Why so much hatred and so much intolerance towards non-Muslims? Just keep treating the symptoms. In Pakistan, only prescriptions are pronounced for treating symptoms, not to mention that these prescriptions are never filled and followed. But treating the symptoms is only the start. Eradicating the disease or curing the disease that started the symptoms is something that Pakistan has never touched. But is it possible in present infrastructure that Pakistan currently has, that cure or eradicating the disease which causes multiple symptoms is even possible, feasible, or for that matter even detectable with the current tools at Pakistan's disposal?

When nothing else for the political "Ullemas" in Pakistan, as a last resort they turn to the Ahmadis. The Prime Minister announces his action plan, to counter that the religious extremists get into action, Amir Liaqat does a "hate" program on the TV channel, the followers of the "Ullemas" get excited, and an Ahmadi is os killed in cold blood.
In fact this is not a challenge to the Ahmadis, but to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and General Rahil Sharif, to test them how serious they are in implementing the twenty points announced by the PM.

@Zia Khan Then what about Muslims living in India (in fact, more in numbers than the total population of Pakistan)? Secondly, if Pakistan was created for Muslims, then why and for whom the Bangladesh was created? Don't you know the recent Killers in Pesawar School were also Muslims!! All the militants groups targeting the innocent Pakistani/Muslims civilians are also fighting for an ISLAMIC Pakistan as they belive that Pakistan is still not a TRUE Islamic country!! The story is similar for ISIS and other groups. These militants think only their version of ISLAMIC ideology is correct and they want to implement it at the cost of uncountable precious human lives. The solution of such conflicts lies in the principle of coexistance and mutual respects. Let people worship the GOD according to their faith. At the end, my suggestion is that please be cautious, supporting such inhumane and barbaric activity is like nurturing snakes who may bite you also one day.

Most changes require power and we all know that this tool is owned by powerful governments. When we talk about intolerance in the society, we criticize mullaha and other hate preachers. But how these hate preachers are getting away with this? Who will stop them preaching hatred against minorities? Who will change this narrative? Government is not exerting its power.

So that speech by the PM in the early hours of December 25 was just so much of hot air? Or will he "take notice" of the situation and form a commission that will appoint a committee that will form a panel that will draft TOR for an enquiry to look into the matter and make recommendations. It will however not be up to the commission, or committe or panel or anybody else to assign reponsibility of this act.

Aamir Liaquat Hussain should be sacked and Owaisi and Hussain should be tried in the Military Court under Terrorism Act for inciting hatred and violence. Unless firm actions are taken against these perpetrators, Pakistan will be pushed into dark ages.

What do you mean by saying India was created for non Muslims ? Neither Muslims or non Muslims of India can agree to any such classification that you want to make. Please understand that over 80% of the Muslims in 1947 who lived on Indian soil, never agreed to go to any promised land, being happy to remain Indian. They are as much inheritors of the great Indus Valley Civilization, choosing to be Indians first, human values far more important to them than any ideology. It was the Ahmadies who were in the forefront of demands for Partition who need to contemplate on their own shortsightedness, the result of their labour visible to all. Of course what is happening to them is reprehensible, but then how can we condone the death of a million innocents in 1947, what exactly was their fault.

On the Youtube is a video which features a Canadian national called TAREK FATAH.
He has given up his Pakistani citizenship and calls himself "an Indian born in Pakistan"!
He is a writer and,in one of his interviews on the YouTube he says that the Shites and the Ahmadiyas were enthusiastic supporters of the Partition?
Perhaps this can be presented to the mullahs to stop their incitement towards blood sport?

Sickening to read Innocent people being killed with no shame. How can media allow hate speech to go on air.
When are we going to learn that tolerance and acceptance of the minorities is the key tenant of Islam.
These TV shows that are spouting hatred should be cancelled. The so-called Amir Liaquat is seeking cheap publicity and some of the videos making the rounds on the internet show him in the not so good light. I wonder how do these people remain credible in our society.

Dr Aamir liaqat’s programs spreading hate are not new. Why Pemra is silent in this case? Such type of programs are openly spewing hate and inciting people to violence. Just few days after this programe an Ahmadi is once again killed – the same incident took place in 2008 when an Ahmadi Doctor was killed just a day after Dr Aamir Liaqat’s pograme in which a so called cleric declared Ahmadis Wajabul Qatal.
If we want to rid our country of these kind of inhuman incidents and curb spreading hate, people by the likes of Dr Aamir Liaqat, Syed Arif Shah and also media channels involved in this should be brought to book for inciting and propagating violence which later results in murders of members of minority groups.

Ahmadis are outlawed and out cast from the main stream Muslims in Pakistan. Government anf civil society has failed to protect them from the terrorists and extremism. Their killers are never apprehended as there is no effort by the law enforcement agencies as even the killers are apprehended which judged or court will sentence them. Let's see if military courts are able to deliver this justice. With current set up, there is no hope for justice for minorities.
