PESHAWAR: At least two people were injured on Tuesday in a blast targeting a security forces vehicle in the Cantonment area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Bannu district.

According to police, the bomb was planted in a motorcycle, which exploded as soon as the security personnel vehicle drove by.

Iftikhar Khan, a Station House Officer (SHO) at the Cantonment Police Station, told Dawn that one security personnel and a civilian were injured in the blast.

Khan said that the bomb appeared to have been operated by remote control.

He added that the blast damaged the security forces' vehicle and evidence is currently being collected.

The injured were shifted to the hospital as the army was cordoned off by the army.

There was so far no claim of responsibility by any militant group, but security forces in restive northwestern Pakistan are regularly attacked by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

About 150 kilometres southwest of Peshawar, Bannu district borders North Waziristan tribal agency, known to be the Pakistani Taliban nerve-centre where the Pakistani military is carrying out Operation Zarb-i-Azb to flush them out.
