KARACHI: The glitzy finale of the supermodel hunt show Veet Miss Supermodel 2014 was held on Thursday night at the Expo Centre where contestants walked the length of the ramp in designer outfits with Zoe Viccaji and Ali Azmat belting out popular tunes for the Grand Finale show. Towards the end, one of the lucky girls ended up wearing the coveted crown but not without a generous dose of drama.

Earlier when the show commenced, celebrated fashion models Aamna Ilyas, Cybil Chaudhry, Sabeena Pasha and TV personality Waqar Ali Khan could be seen tutoring the contestants in the episodes recorded and later aired on television. It included grooming tips and sessions as well as training modules and mock shoots in an effort to further hone their professional attributes as aspiring fashion models.

Thursday’s grand finale also recorded for television was supervised by four judges — fashion photographer Tapu Javeri, renowned stylist Saba Ansari of Sabs Salon, couturier par excellence Hasan Shehryar Yasin (HSY) and former supermodel, fashion and style icon Vaneeza Ahmed. All of them made dramatic entrances to introduce themselves before taking up their seats at the judges’ panel.

The show was divided into four segments. For the first one, the finalists took to the ramp draped in Sania Maskatiya prêt and were evaluated by the judges’ panel.

The next platform to be judged on was a beauty show where the girls were dolled up by Saba Ansari and dressed in designer Zaheer Abbas’ fetching couture pieces to a live performance with Zoe Viccaji.

At this point, three contestants were awarded coveted titles: Miss Catwalk went to Javeria, Most Promising Model went to Hameeda and Miss Photogenic was Rubina’s for the taking.

The last fashion presentation of the night featured elaborate outfits by Umar Sayeed with Ali Azmat performing, following which the top three contestants were revealed: Humera, Beenish and Misbah.

Beauty with brains

The three finalists were asked by each of the four judges a round of questions such as ‘the one thing you are most proud of as a Pakistani’, ‘most difficult thing you have faced in this competition’ and ‘if given a choice as a model would you rather open or close a show’. To all the questions they received smart and fitting answers. The purpose behind it was to showcase the intellect of the contestants, who are not just all about looks but host beauty with brains as well.

In the end, it all came down to a tie with another final set of questions put forth by the judges before the winner could be announced. As to who that may be, the viewers will just have to watch the airing of the Grand Finale of the Veet Miss Supermodel 2014 episode on television to find out.

The hair and make-up of all the contestants was done by Sabs Salon with Hum TV as the official media and production partner.

The PR was by Take II and backstage management by Production 021.
