Plan to stage India, Pakistan series

KARACHI, Sept. 2: Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) is planning to stage India-Pakistan Challenge Snooker Test Series here in December, PBSA president Ali Asghar Valika revealed on Tuesday.

He said he had spoken to former World Billiards Champion and coordinator of Billiards and Snooker Federation of India Michael Fereira on phone, who has asked for an official invitation and details of the event from the PBSA

Valika said, Fereira has principally agreed to play the series and details and format of the series between two arch-rivals is being sent to BSFI.

He said dates of the series will be finalized in consulation with BSFI.

He said challenge series will be of two-day competition comprising three matches. He said both Pakistan and Indian teams will comprise of four cueists and a delegate.

PBSA chief said the all the four players will play single frame match against each other and a doubles games in each match. He said any team winning the first two Test matches will be declared winner.

However, in case of 1-1 draw after first two Test matches, top cueists will play a single frame match to decided the out come of the series.

He said a tobacco company will sponsor the series ad it cost around six to seven lacs. A prize money of Rs 120,000 will be at offer in the series with winners getting Rs 80,000 and runners-up Rs 40,000.

Valika said a two-member national squad consisting of Khurram Agha and Saleh Muhammad will represent Pakistan in the World Snooker Championship schedule to be held at Jiang Ming City (China) next month.— APP
