PESHAWAR: The newly formed Water & Sanitation Service Peshawar (WSSP) has prepared a short-term plan to ensure cleanliness during Eidul Azha days in the provincial capital.

“WSSP is a first ever public sector company in Pakistan which will work simultaneously for improving water, sanitation and solid waste disposal in urban localities of Peshawar,” said its chief executive Engineer Mohammad Naeem Khan, while speaking at a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday.

He said the company had taken over control of municipal services and would work in 67 union councils of Peshawar, including 45 urban and 22 rural.

Naeem Khan said that the WSSP had been formed to plan for future needs of the urban population through launching of mega projects, including greater water supply schemes and surface supply through Bara and Jabba dams. It also aimed at integrating the fragmented water and sanitation related municipal functions into one entity, he added.

The company has also identified a landfill site of 80 acres in Badbher for solid waste disposal.

Mr Khan said that the company had started collecting waste along with fumigation drive in the city, besides repairing drains.
