SUKKUR: The tenth Dawn in Education National Spelling Bee Compe­tition-2014 Sukkur round contest was held in the auditorium of the Sukkur Institute of Business Administration (IBA) here on Wednesday.

The event was organised by the Dawn Media Group in association with the US Embassy Islamabad, Sukkur Institute of Business Administration and Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur. Around 500 students from different schools and colleges of Sukkur, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Ranipur, Mirpur Mathelo, Daharki, Naushahro Feroze and Dadu participated in it.

The programme began at 8:30am sharp and it continued till 5pm, in which students in three age groups — from 9 to 11, 12 to 14, and 15 to 17 — took part.

Sukkur IBA Registrar Zahid Khand and Prof Yasmeen Qazi were the guests of honour while judges of the competition were from the Oxford University Press.

The contents were won by Apwa Excellent World School Sukkur in the age group of 9 -11, by IBA Community College Khairpur in the 12 – 14 age group and FFC Grammar School Mirpur Mathelo (District Ghotki) in the age group of 15 – 17.

The Regional Champ­ionship will be held on Oct 25 in Pakistan in which today’s winners would participate while the National Champ­ionship will be held in Islamabad in November.
