ATC indicts Gullu Butt over vandalism, attacking policemen

LAHORE: An anti-terrorist court on Friday indicted Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) activist Gullu Butt with vandalism and attacking policemen on the list of charges levelled against him.

Butt, the baton-wielding man who was caught on camera damaging vehicles in Lahore during the Model Town incident, was indicted by ATC judge Rai Ayub Khan Marth.

Butt has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Butt came into the limelight after he was caught on camera brazenly damaging several vehicles in the presence of police, during the clash between Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers and police in Lahore's Model Town on June 17.

Butt has pleaded that he was just passing through the area where the incident occurred, adding that owners of the damaged vehicles had not filed any complaints and police had made a case on its own.

Fourteen supporters of the PAT had been killed and scores of others injured in police action in Model Town. The incident triggered widespread condemnation of the Punjab government and the sacking of provincial law minister Rana Sanaullah.

In late August 28, the police also lodged an FIR against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and 19 others in relation to the incident and on the complaint of Minjahul Quran secretariat. The complaint included Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act and three more sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.

What a joke..... when will our ppl get justice? Our laws need to be amended and courts and judges need to be fully trained to get their job done. Ex CJ Iftiqar Ch. we were not fighting for you, we were fighting for the independence of judiciary but alas! you messed by everything for your good.

Indicted for attacking Police? strange isn't it? he was being hugged by SSP and Police followed him when he was charging towards protesters, he stole Pepsi bottles and was offering to Police. His stand in the Court that he was "passing by" is a big Lie as much as this charge sheet.See video footage and all will be cleared.

He never attacked policemen, he attacked ANTI PML-N unarmed civilians this is a joke. I have seen various videos in which police are giving shelter to him and in one instance he is even being hugged by police officials. This is a joke I have lost all trust in our judiciary.... Honestly he is a just another variant of Nawaz Sharif...like leader like slave !

If Pakistan does not implement Khilaafah e Raashidah (governance by Allaah's laws) than all these protests are a total waste of time. Muslims and Islam can never live in peace without Khilaafah system. If you the protesters are demanding democracy, which in its basic form is 'fulfillment of personal desires' or 'rule of the mob' . Than I promise you that the whole of Pakistan will be destroyed sooner rather than later. If you implement Khilafaah system (e.g. Iranian system which has totally changed Iran for the better in just the last 20 yrs) than you will have security, freedom, respect and all the goodness this world has to offer. Also the West or any country for that matter will think a million times before attacking Pakistan. As they know true Muslims do not fear death, they embrace it with open arms and happiness.

@Ali Syed Really ? Police has nothing to do with the government ? They bring there own gundaas ? If that's the case SS should resign even sooner as he is soooo incompetent that he cannot even control the police. If he can't control the police how can he control the real criminals ? And if you say police is under his control --- then Gullu is his worker. Intentionally planted there to cause riots leading to these killings. One way or other either he ordered it or it's a case of criminal neglect that caused innocent people to loose their lives. I wonder if one of those killed was from your family ? Would you still be taking SS side ?

Attacking the police ?? Cops who were helping him and even who were looking the other way should be suspended and prosecuted too. The video is not ONLY about Gullu. It shows other people cops helping him. And then PMLN says why can't IK trust sharif brothers to do the rigging investigations. For this very reason --- even if the rigging is proved , it would be easier for sitting PM to blame some unknown factors , and refusing to resign.
