The ungrateful crow

THIS is with reference to the story “The ungrateful crow” by Hamza Hussain (YW, August 16, 2014). The story had a lesson that we should all pay heed to.

These days children like to follow trends of weird new styles in haircut, clothes and accessories. This makes them appear completely different from what they really are naturally.

Moreover, it is sad to see the youth using whitening creams to look fairer. What they don’t realise is that all human beings are perfect the way they naturally are. Trying to look like someone you are not is fooling yourself. I hope children will take a lesson from this brilliant story.

Section on palaeontology

I HAVE been a big fan of Young World magazine since I was five years old. Now I am doing my O Levels. I still find it interesting, however, there used to be some really amazing sections in magazine in the past. This doesn’t mean that YW has lost its flavour, which is still there in some unique sections. No doubt there isn’t any magazine in the country that has such diverse range of articles.

Apart from that I would like to request the team that instead of the astronomy section, there should be a section on ‘Palaeontology’, where a brief history of any animal or bird should be given, it would really be a great addition to the magazine.

The art of self-defence

THIS is with reference to the cover story “The art of self-defence” by Benazir Raz Soomro (YW, August 30, 2014). The article sparked an urge in me to join martial arts classes. The article was very interesting and informative. I appreciate the writer for focussing on a subject that is not given much attention in our part of the world.

II

“THE art of self-defence” by Benazir Raz Soomro was a wonderful article and can prove beneficial if our youth, instead of wasting time on internet and various apps on mobiles, indulge in some exercise, learn some physical skills like martial arts or any other sport.

In western countries, from a very early age children participate actively in physical activities. However, children here are now more into computers and video games, which is quite distressing.

So it is my suggestion to the readers that they should participate more in sports and martial arts then these fruitless activities.

Apart from that, I really appreciate the writer for giving readers the chance to know and learn about various styles in martial arts and its benefits.
