SHEIKHUPURA: Nankana Saddar police registered a case against former district naib nazim Rai Mushtaq Kharal on charges of stealing canal water.

A Punjab Irrigation and Drainage Authority (PIDA) inspection team, led by Muhammad Akram Khan Faridi, on a tip-off conducted a raid at an outlet being used to supply canal water to Kharal’s land.

The team found the suspect had uprooted bricks from inside the outlet and expanded its capacity, which was illegal according to PIDA Act 1997.

The team head approached the Saddar police that registered a case against the former naib nazim with no arrest so far.

SUICIDE: A man beat up his wife following which she allegedly committed suicide in Jhabran Mandi on Wednesday.

Abdullah and his wife, Shamshad Bibi, used to argue over domestic issues. The man got infuriated and beat up his wife with a stick. Later, she allegedly committed suicide by consuming poisonous tablets.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital in a critical condition where doctors pronounced her dead. Saddar police started an investigation.

ACCIDENT: A car hit and killed a youth in front of the railway station on Wednesday.

Zahoor Elahi was on his way home on a bicycle when a car hit him. He was rushed to hospital where he died due to critical injuries.

B Division police started investigation against the absconding car driver.
