KARACHI: In all, 10,86,641 voters have been enlisted in Karachi district in the draft electoral rolls for the forthcoming general elections. This is out of the total population of over 23 lakhs.

Many persons, it is feared, will not be able to file claims and objections since they could not see the draft electoral rolls placed in the Union Committees in different parts of Karachi. Several Union Committees, it is alleged, are not observing Government instructions as far as proper display of these preliminary lists are concerned. The lists, it is reported, are not being freely shown to the people.

An instance of omission of over 50 voters from the draft electoral rolls in Hasrat Mohani Colony was brought to the notice of the Director of Basic Democracies, Karachi, by a deputation of the residents yesterday.

The Director, it is understood, asked those persons to file claims and objections for enrolment as voters after checking the cases individually.

When contacted, he said yesterday that an inquiry has already begun into the allegations of enrolment of bogus votes in the Society area and a report will be submitted to the Commissioner of Karachi within four days.
