History shows again and again why the west loves Pakistan despite the public skirmishes. Pakistan and Pakistanis are too important to ignore. We have a strategic importance which far exceeds any temporary disagreements. We are the true leaders of ummah.

These kind of leaders are essential for the promotion of American interests in pursuing their neocolonial objectives, such as there in the whole Middle East or Afghanistan. Patriotic and sincere leadership is not acceptable in their policies and may not receive a warm reception even if he is an acting chief executive is a country.

Is Zardari now becoming a spokesman for Nawaz Sharif ? I guess Nawaz Sharif is too busy handling Saudi Royals, he is relying on Zardari to handle US administration. Wait when Zardari gets back, ourTV anchormen & his cronies will turn him into a 'statesman' of the Asia.

This is good for our economic and political stability. I am very happy they are doing this. Zardari may be a massive crook, but what matters is our international image and our rankings by international institutes such as Moody's and S&Ps. I know many might disagree but we need to be more approachable worldwide and this move gives an image of a more stable democracy.

It is good to maintain protocol for former head of the state but Pakistan needs to save every single penny and invest it in the development of its human resource which is desperately lacking even when comparing it to regional countries. Secondly after planned massacre of innocent people in Lahore the reputation of ruling PMN-L will not enhance a bit in international community by extending such protocol because that massacre was not an act of criminals but a deliberate and planned act of the sitting government--under normal circumstances protocol to ex-President is a good gesture but considering the present political situation it appears that it was just to please PPP --whatever the cost these funds could have been utilized better.

Things are getting serious in Pakistan. May be Zardari has something he can Bargain for with USA. There is no such thing as a FREE LUNCH. And Nawaz Shariff has something he can Bargain with Saudis. Saudis wants to know if Imran Khan is cabale of making problems with their man in Islamabad, and if they are bettibg on a Winner. Saudis wants to be the leaders of Sunni Islamic World. It has been bothering them since the time Ayatullah Khomani, Kicked Out Shah of Iran, and became the Symbolic Leader of The Shias of the Islamic world. .

I'm impressed with this new protocol. This should be the way for former presidents or PMs of the country. Let them give each other protection if that's what people think and could be the case but when we have 2 generations of continuous democracy then no will wish for Army rule. System will eventually improve but first let them take these baby steps, please.

Despite all your good or bad wishes, we cannot change history. It is a fact that Zardari, is an ex president of Pakistan. Now if our state or a foreign state is giving him, or for that matter any ex president the due honor, whats wrong with it.

We must agree that the way zardari had given this country to move forward and continue the democratic journey is appreciative.

@ayaz ali No. Heroes of this country are Dr. AQ Khan, Iftikhar Chaudhary, and Imran Khan. I wonder where who will the nation turn to when Imran Khan also disappoints like Iftikhar Chaudhary did. Imran Khan made a valid point. Rich businessmen doing politics is a conflict of interest. Also, Imran Khan is correct about irresponsible, un-transparent politics of PPP. But pointing out a couple of genuine issues in politics of Pakistan does not give Imran Khan the right to run for the next Prime Minister. Until he was 'picked up' by the ex-chief of an intelligence agency, Imran Khan had no place in power politics. Look at the governance in KPK. It is hardly any better than other provinces. So, I have to say that Imran Khan will not do any miracles when he becomes the Prime Minister. The nation has to get its priorities right, start correcting the system, and let the system take care of the problems of people. Strengthening the democratic system is necessary. Interestingly, an irresponsible government like PPP (2008-2013) took some good steps in this direction. Let us hope the process continues. As far as so-called corruption is concerned, our politicians are as corrupt as the rest of the nation. So, why does the nation complain.
