KARACHI: The alleged mastermind of the attack on the Kamra airbase was killed during overnight action carried out by Rangers personnel in Karachi, DawnNews quoted the Rangers spokesman as saying.

According to the spokesman for the paramilitary force, the alleged mastermind was associated with the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and was killed during targeted action in Karachi's Musharraf Colony.

Previously in 2012, law enforcement sources had claimed the arrest of the attack’s alleged mastermind.

The airbase was attacked in August 2012 by seven heavily armed militants, sparking an intense gun battle lasting almost five hours.

The militants were armed with automatic weapons, grenades and suicide vests. Intense exchange of fire between militants and security forces ensued after the attackers infiltrated the base located in Attock, Punjab.

All seven attackers were killed and one Pakistani soldier also lost his life in the attack.

At least two killed in separate incidents of violence

At least four people were killed in separate incidents of violence in Karachi.

Two bodies bearing torture marks were recovered from Pak Colony area and Mehmoodabad's Chanesar Goth area respectively. The deceased were abducted before they were tortured and killed.

Moreover, two people were injured as a result of firing near Baldia Town’s Jungle School.

Karachi, the largest metropolitan city of Pakistan, is riddled with targeted killings, gang wars, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism.

Targeted operations led by Rangers’ forces with the support of police are ongoing in the city under a directive issued by the federal government against criminals already identified by federal, military and civilian agencies.
