KARACHI: Four suspects were gunned down in as many encounters with law-enforcement agencies during targeted operations in the old city areas on Wednesday, officials said.

The Rangers and police acting on information conducted a targeted operation in the Kalakot area and killed three suspects in a shootout, said SSP City Sheraz Nazeer. The three encounters took place at the areas near Cheel Chowk and Gabol Park, he added.

The officer said that the deceased were identified as Arif alias Patni, 40, Zubair Ahmed alias Bhaya, 34, and Waheed Hussain alias Appu, 32. He said that the three gangsters were wanted in criminal cases.

Kalakot SHO Haji Sanaullah said Arif belonged to the Umer Katchhi gang, Zubair to the Mullah Nisar gang and Waheed to the Taju gang.

Earlier, police killed a suspect, Faisal, associated with the Uzair Baloch gang in the Mithadar area, police said.
