Majid’s loss marks end of Pakistan campaign

KARACHI: Pakistan’s engagement in the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) under-21 snooker championship came to an abrupt end on Friday night when Ireland’s Josh Boileau sent national junior champion Mohammad Majid Ali packing 5-1 in pre quarter-finals in Fujairah.

The Irish cueist gave little room to Majid who managed to extend his opponent to six frames in the best-of-nine battle.

According to results made available here, Majid, who was home 5-2 over compatriot Mohammad Faheem in the last-32 round, hardly got 15-minute rest before facing the Irish cueist.

On the other hand, the Englishman had prevailed over Indian Dhvaj Haria 5-1 in the last-32 round and got ample time to relax. After beating Majid, Boileau made a 6-0 short work of Lee Mein of Scotland in quarters to sneak into last four.

It is pertinent to mention that Majid’s three fellow countrymen – Hamza Akbar, Mohammad Haris Nadeem and Mohammad Faheem – have made their exit one after the other after reaching knockout stage.

Meanwhile, Pakistan team is scheduled to arrive from Dubai on Monday night.

Results: Josh Boileau (Ireland) bt Mohammad Majid Ali (Pakistan) 5-1 (65-27, 110-8, 78-36, 5-64, 76-17, 94-1).— Sports Correspondent
