ISLAMABAD: Teams from Rawalpindi won their respective semi-finals in the National U-16 Inter-club Wo­men’s Football Championship here at the Divisional Public School Ground on Friday.

In the first semi-final, Young Rising Stars (YRS) Rawalpindi defeated Karachi’s Fatima Jinnah Women Football Club 2-0.

Striker Iman Maqsood gave her team lead by scoring opening goal on the fifth minute.

YRS, displaying relatively better quality football skills, kept the ball possession during most part of the first half, not allowing their opponents to equalise.

YRS doubled their lead in the second half as Anorina scored their second goal in the 55th minute. The lead remained intact till the very end.

Meanwhile, in second semi-final saw an exciting contest between Soccer Queens Rawalpindi and Diya Club, which the former eventually won 1-0.

Both squads displayed some brilliant moves in the first half but no team managed to score as a fierce contest was witnessed.

However, in the 69th minute, Soccer Queens’ Sara Latif scored a beautiful goal that proved to be match-deciding goal.

The tournament final will be played at 4:00pm on Sunday.
