MULTAN, Sept 30: The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority may introduce some more short courses for women to enable them enhance their earning.

Multan Technical Education regional director and Tevta official Safdar Husain Safdar said here on Friday that outlines of courses, demands at local level and other necessary requirements had been forwarded to Tevta higher authorities for a final decision.

The courses include a beautician course, repair of electric appliances and preservation of food. He said demand to start a beautician course had been received from Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Muzaffargarh.

The home appliances course, he said, would help women repair their appliances independently. The plan would bring the women to mainstream economic activities in the country.

He said course on office management had already been started in Multan.

He maintained the Tevta was committed to improving the vocational training institutes in the province and to bring them at par with the local industry and market’s requirements. He said a lot had to be done to improve vocational traininginfrastructure in the province as the old and lengthy coursesdesigned for imparting skills to operate manual machines had become outdated. The old courses did not help much in providing employment tothe people which resultantly reduced the number of students in the vocational institutes, he added.—APP
