LAHORE: An election tribunal set aside on Monday the general election result of PP-107, Hafizabad, and ordered re-election within the stipulated time in the constituency.

Independent candidate Syed Shoaib Shah Shahnawaz was elected to the Punjab Assembly in the May 11 election from PP-107.

PML-N's defeated candidate Nighat Intisar had challenged the result, accusing rigging in the polling.

The tribunal appointed a commission to inspect the election record in the constituency. The commission in its report said polling bags of many polling stations were missing from the record. It also said that counterfeited ballot papers were also found in the available record.

The election tribunal set aside the election result of PP-107 and ordered the Election Commission to hold fresh polling.
