LAHORE: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has announced that JI will stage sit-ins outside governor houses in Karachi, Quetta and Peshawar and the Chief Minister House in Lahore on Sunday (today) against petroleum levy.

He was addressing a press conference along with the central and provincial office-bearers of JI at Mansoora on Saturday. JI deputy chiefs Liaqat Baloch, Mian Muhammad Aslam, Dr Attaur Rehman, JI acting Secretary General Nazeer Ahmed Janjua, Deputy Secretary Azhar Iqbal Hassan, JI Lahore Emir Ziauddin Ansari Advocate, JI Central Punjab Secretary Babar Rashid, social media head Salman Sheikh and JI Youth representatives Ahmad Salman Baloch and Jibran Butt were also present.

Mr Rehman said, “We want to convey the voice of the suppressed labourers, students and other strata of society to the government peacefully.”

He said if the government tried to commit any adventure or play with the protest, then the movement for decreasing petrol prices could be converted into a government toppling movement. He said that JI had staged sit-ins at 510 places last week but not a flowerpot was broken at a single place.

He said their demands were to fix the price of petrol at Rs225 and abolish levy, and roti price be fixed at Rs10 while decreasing flour, electricity and gas prices.
