LAHORE: Five people, including three car occupants and two pedestrians, were killed when a speeding vehicle went out of control and ran over the people walking on a footpath before ramming into a tree in Harbanspura on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Muzammil (15), Nauman (18), Abdul Rehman (20), Furqan (17) and Junaid (19).

Rescue personnel shifted the dead bodies and an injured child to the Services Hospital. Police said the child was jogging on the footpath along with his mother and brother. His brother, however, died.

Rescue 1122 initial findings suggested speeding was the main cause of the accident.

According to the traffic police spokesperson, the car went out of control of the driver and trampled pedestrians walking on the footpath, killing two of them along with three people onboard the four-wheeler.

City Traffic Officer Abdul Raheem Shirazi took notice of the incident and sought a report from the City Zone SSP regarding the accident.

In another incident, four people were injured when a speeding car collided with a rickshaw near Gohawa village.

Rescue 1122 officials reached the spot and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital. Traffic police meanwhile announced the impounding of over 3,000 bikes being driven by underage and young drivers on Friday night.

Five cases were registered for one wheelie, another five for doing road stunts and blocking roads and two cases for car drifting.

ELECTROCUTED: A labourer was killed after touching a high voltage wire over a roof near Laliyani Phattak.

The labourer was working on the roof when he touched 11kv wire. The victim suffered critical injuries and died on the spot.
