LAHORE: The Punjab government on Tuesday approved 18 development schemes of different sectors with an estimated cost of Rs22.241 billion.

The schemes were approved at the 34th meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party of the current fiscal year 2013-14 which was presided over by Planning and Development Board Chairman Irfan Elahi.

P&D Secretary Arif Anwar Baloch and members, provincial secretaries concerned and other senior representatives of the departments concerned also attended the meeting.

According to a P&D spokesman, the approved schemes included: Punjab Work Place Literacy Project (Rs514.605 million); construction of 100-bed Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif General Hospital, Multan (Phase-I-Revised) (Rs513.649 million); establishment of Model Cattle Market Sargodha Road, Sheikhupura (Amended) (Rs265.029 million); Water Supply Scheme, based on Naroomi Dhan Spring Phase-II, Tehsil Pind Dadan Khan, District Jhelum (Rs357.412 million); Urban Water Supply Scheme, Chakwal, based on Khai Dam, District Chakwal (Rs580.522 million); construction of Metro Bus Transit System for Lahore-Ferozepur Road Corridor, Package-IV; construction of MTS from MAO College to Taxali Chowk (Elevated) length-2.28km (Revised) (Rs3380.757 million); and development and construction of a bus depot on Southern Side (Revised) (Rs983.247 million).

Widening/improvement of Bosan Road from BZU to Adda Sahi Chawan (length 21km) in District Multan (Rs408.572 million); widening/improvement of road, Sheikhupura Sargodha Road, km No.37 to 49.56 to 61.3 and 71.60 to 83.30 length 20.90km in District Sheikhupura (Rs1081.098 million); construction of a bridge over the River Tavi at Saidpur Pattan I/C Approaches of bridge in District Sialkot (Rs383.713 million); widening/improvement of road from Jalalpur Jattan Shahbazpur Road to Head Marala via Chopala length 17.21km in District Gujrat (Rs244.947 million); construction of Faisalabad Ring Road (Missing links between Faisalabad Sargodha Road and Faisalabad Chak Jhumra Road), length 11.82km, District Faisalabad (Rs381.7 million); rehabilitation of the road from 33 Phatak to Kotmomin I/C Kotmomin bypass length 38.2km in District Sargodha (Rs298.895 million).

Construction of a flyover on GT Road at Aziz Cross Gujranwala in District Gujranwala (PC-II) (Rs32.94 million); widening and improvement of road from Gagoo Mandi to Katchi Pacci Chowk via Jamlera Sahuka from km 0.00 to 45.00 length 45km in District Vehari (Rs427.724 million); preservation/renovation and landscaping of Minar-i-Pakistan and Circular Garden additional area (Greater Iqbal Park) (Revised) (Rs312.216 million); extension of water resources for Faisalabad City Phase-II (Concept Clearance Paper) (Rs11,525 million); and Due diligence of feasibility report, financial structuring management of bidding process and construction supervision of 2x660MW coal power projects in District Sahiwal on EPC Plus Finance Mode including supplier credit (PC-II) (Rs548.9 million).
