GILGIT, June 25: Speaker Northern Areas Legislative Assembly Haji Sahib Khan has said that the government should initiate auditing of the funds given to non-governmental organizations.

Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday he said: “ Despite getting hefty funds from different resources, the NGOs have failed to execute any mega project in the Northern Areas.”

He said that organizations including AKRSP, AKHS, AKES, WWF and IUCN had been getting billions of dollars as funds from foreign donors and individuals, but were not spending them on productive projects.

Mr Khan accused the NGOs of silencing the bureaucracy in order to prevent the auditing process by extending lavish dinners and expensive trips.
