Farooq wins NA-255 byelection

KARACHI, June 23: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Dr Farooq Sattar emerged victorious in the by-election to the National Assembly constituency NA-255 by securing 73,334 votes here on Monday, according to unofficial results.

His closest rival was Aslam Mujahid of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, who could muster only 17,154 votes.

The seat had fallen vacant after the death of MNA Mehmood Qureshi of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement. But, in the by-election, its candidate Syed Abid Jafri bagged only 1099 votes. A total of 16 candidates were in the run.

The number of votes cast was 95,645, of which 95,103 were valid while 542 votes were rejected.
