FAISALABAD: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah ruled out on Saturday striking any deal with former president Pervez Musharraf giving him a safe passage.

He told reporters that American official Raymond Davis, murderer of two people in Lahore, had been produced before court despite international pressure. He said the court had released Davis.

In the case of Gen Musharraf, he said courts would have the final words as also stated by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Mr Sanaullah also reviewed a water supply project on Saturday. The Rs16 billion French-Punjab venture is likely to be completed by 2015.

He said elections on the nomination papers filed by candidates across Punjab seemed impossible as the court had declared delimitation null and void. He said it was the prerogative of the Punjab Election Commission to conduct or postpone elections.

He said it was the matter of concern that the Punjab government had not obtained the copy of court verdict even after the passage of four days. He said the government would decide about challenging the decision of the Lahore High Court after going through the verdict.

About the water supply project, he said more than 85 per cent of the city population would get clean drinking water.

WASA Managing Director Zahid Aziz said the water treatment plant would be completed by the end of September. He said a 24-MW solar energy plant would also be installed with the French assistance.
