KARACHI: The Sindh government on Tuesday extended the ban on pillion-riding for another 24 hours after multiple blasts in the city amid tight security arrangements for the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions forced it to review the earlier announcement, a senior official said.
“The ban was earlier imposed only for Tuesday to make Chehlum security arrangements effective,” said Sharfuddin Memon, a consultant to the Sindh home ministry.
“But there were a few acts of terrorism that we witnessed despite tight security measures which led to the decision. There was also a recommendation from the security and intelligence agencies to keep the ban at least for one more day.”
Apart from the earlier announcement of the 24-hour ban on pillion-riding by the Sindh government, cellphone services also remained suspended across the city for 15 hours in line with the security arrangements.
