GUJRAT, Dec 6: Police claim to have busted at least five major gangs of robbers during the current week, however, there is no let up in reports of robberies across the district.

Robbers looted cash and jewellery worth Rs5 million from the house of a local trader in Lala Chak village in Rehmania police remits.

Six men barged in the house of Nauman Gondal, also president of the Anjuman Tajiran, on Sargodha Road on Wednesday night and held the residents hostage at gunpoint. They looted 75-tola gold jewellery, Rs750,000 in cash, clothes and other valuables.

Police registered a case on Gondal’s report and started investigation.

In another incident, six unidentified men broke into the house of Alfaqar Qureshi in Kotli Bajar village of Guliana police precincts. They looted Rs200,000 and 700 euros, eight-tola gold and other valuables. Police registered a case and started investigation.

According to police officials, five main gangs of robbers operating in various parts of the district, especially in Gujrat, had been arrested during the last few days.

They said they had believed robberies might decline in the wake of these arrests. However, the incidents are happening daily in the district.
