KARACHI, Nov 2: An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead in a targeted attack in Orangi Town on Saturday, police said.

They said that armed riders targeted 41-year-old Ishaq Ghori on Ibrahim Road in Orangi Town’s Sector 9 when he was going home on his motorbike.

“He was hit by three bullets and died on the spot,” said an official at the Orangi Town police station. “The victim was a resident of Sector 10 and worked at the Qatar Hospital as a technician.”

The police said that he was father of eight and a known activist of the MQM. Meanwhile, a high-level conference was held at the Sachal Rangers headquarters to review the cases of criminals arrested during targeted operations in the city.

“The director general of Rangers presided over the meeting,” said a Rangers statement. “During the meeting judicial proceedings and current position of cases were discussed. Additional IGP, Rangers sector commanders, Zonal DIGs, investigation officers of designated police stations, public prosecutors and Rangers prosecution officers attended the meeting.”

Rangers said on Saturday that they carried out targeted raids in Baldia Town, Manzoor Colony, Marvi Goth, Nusrat Bhutto Colony, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Mujahid Colony and Singho Lane on Friday night and arrested eight criminals.

Hashish seized

The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) on Saturday claimed to have seized 20 kilos of hashish and several bottles of liquor during a drive against drug traffickers in Chaneser Goth.

Eight suspects were also arrested in the drive launched on the directives of the Supreme Court, said an ANF statement.
