BADIN: The provincial government has restored all eight town committees of Badin district and increased the number of union councils from 45 to 68 during the delimitation process.

The eight town committees were abolished in 2001 after former military dictator retired Gen Pervez Musharraf introduced his devolution of power plan system.

According to lists displayed by the office of the Badin deputy commissioner, based on the 1998 population census the district shall have two municipal committees (MCs), eight town committees (TCs) and 68 union councils (UCs).

The list of the proposed delimitation and boundaries had been sent to the Hyderabad commissioner.

The delimitation has caused anger among certain people who alleged that it was carried out in an unfair and unjustified manner.

Badin taluka consists of one MC, one TC and 17 UCs each having the population of 65,473, 7,680 and 215,906.

Matli taluka is comprised of one MC having population of 50,478, one TC (22,870) and 16 UCs (215,230).

Tando Bago taluka: two TCs (Tando Bago-21,352 and Khoski 25,622) and 17 UCs (209,688).

Talhar taluka: two TCs (Talhar 40,698 and Rajo Khanani 10,064) and six UCs (72,380).

Shaheed Fazal Rahu taluka: two TCs (S.F.R 14,226 and Kario Ghanwar 12,200) and 12 UCs (145,966).
