LONDON, Oct 28: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said here on Monday that the issue of Dr Shakeel Afridi was subjudice and subject to court’s ruling.

Talking to journalists after his arrival here to attend the ninth meeting of the World Islamic Forum, the prime minister said his government would not take any extrajudicial step over the issue of Dr Afridi.

He said Pakistan had the right to take its own decisions on such matters and it would exercise its right.

He said drone attacks were against the sovereignty of Pakistan and during his meeting with President Barack Obama he had very candidly raised the issue.

Mr Sharif said that peace was being restored in Karachi and expressed the hope that there would be complete peace in the city.

He said Pakistan’s policy was to support a peaceful Afghanistan, adding that he would meet President Hamid Karzai during a scheduled trilateral talks here.

About his participation in the forum, the prime minister said he would present steps being taken by his government for improving the country’s economy.

Mr Sharif would address the opening session of the forum on Tuesday and talk about his government’s priorities, particularly in the economic field.

He would share steps the government was taking to create business and investment opportunities and discuss matters relating to fostering greater economic cooperation and collaboration among Muslim countries and with the rest of the world.

The prime minister would use the opportunity to meet leaders of Muslim countries attending the conference.

He would attend a trilateral meeting with Prime Minister David Cameron and President Hamid Karzai.

Senior members of the British cabinet who would call on Mr Sharif include Foreign Secretary William Hague, Home Secretary Theresa May and International Development Secretary Justine Greening.

Matters relating to Pakistan-UK relations and issues specific to the portfolios of UK dignitaries would be discussed.—APP
