SUKKUR, Oct 20: For the second consecutive day after Eidul Azha on Sunday, the administration of the North Sindh Urban Services Corporation (NSUSC) failed to get removed offal and waste of sacrificial animals.
Different localities of Sukkur have also been littered with heaps of garbage for a few days despite tall claims by the divisional, district and NSUSC administrations prior to Eidul Azha that all arrangements had been made for removal of offal and waste of sacrificial animals.
There were no arrangements seen to meet the challenge of cleanliness and street litter in different localities of Sukkur city, including Bagh Hayat Ali Shah, New Pind, Choona Bhatta, Waspur Muhalla, Old Sukkur, Shalimar Road, Thermal Colony, Nusrat Colony No.4, Shah Khalid Colony, Nawan Goth, Dubba Road, Anaj Bazar and other areas.
On the other hand, drains water was overflowing in the area of Bagh Hayat Ali Shah, Shaikh Shaheen Road, Shalimar Road, Neem-Ki-Chari and in front of A-Section police station and public health engineering office, causing a lot of trouble for pedestrians.
Leaders of different organisations including Musharraf Mehmood Qadri of the JUP and Ubedullah Bhutto of Shehri Ittehad have expressed their anxiety over poor sanitation and chocking of drains in different areas of the city and criticised the NSUSC administration.
Ubedullah Bhutto of Shehri Ittehad said it seemed that Microwave Colony was not part of Sukkur as no proper arrangements were made for removal offal and waste of sacrificial animals dumped there and people were left to face problems in the aftermath.
The corporation sanitary officials were seen busy during the Eid days but on important roads and ways of Sukkur city, including the areas of Clock Tower, Ayoob Gate, Racecourse Road, Bunder Road and Minara Road where the assistant commissioner and their officers were frequently paying rounds and monitoring the cleanliness situation.
Like every year, people belonging to the Bagri community and beggars thronged the Sukkur city and set up their camps in the areas of Beri (Boat) Chowk Rohri, Rohri, Ali Wahan, Achhi Qubiun, Begari Bund, Golimar, Qureshi Road, Nawan Goth graveyard and others to collect meat and bones and other parts of sacrificial animals which people threw in different localities.
The Bagris were seen busy in drying meat and other things of sacrificial animals under the open sky in sunlight in the areas of Laanch Mor adjacent to Lab-e-Mehran, Begari Bund and Zero point area.
