LARKANA, Oct 18: The Sindh government on Friday ordered an inquiry into the death of seven persons, who reportedly consumed undistilled liquor during the Eid days, in Larkana. Four of the victims, brought to the Chandka Medical College Hospital, were identified as Zahid Abbasi, 26, a clerk in the Chandka Medical College; Saeed Jakhro, 28, a government contractor; Qwais Hariah, an Intermediate (science group) student and Jeay Sindh Students Federation’s Larkana information secretary; and Amar Lal, a resident of Warah town.

The other four persons who died after consuming home-made liquor in the city were identified as Farooque Masih, Rizwan and Jawed Masih.

Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla told Dawn on Friday that he had taken notice of the incident and asked the E&T Larkana director, Saleem Bhutto, to initiate an inquiry and after ascertaining the facts submit a report to him within the next 48 hours.

Confirming only six deaths, the minister said another person was admitted to a hospital.

Sources said that the man, Kamran Channa, a resident of Waleed town, was under treatment at the intensive care unit of the hospital’s medicines department.
