LAHORE, Sept 4: Mian Marghoob Ahmad of the PML-N was unofficially declared returned candidate from PP-150, Lahore, after the returning officer concerned concluded vote recount on Wednesday.

Ahmad got 18,526 votes while his main rival, Mehar Wajid Azeem, of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf obtained 18,074.

A total of 1,138 votes were rejected during the recount and the margin of victory between the two main candidates was 452.

The RO concluded recounting of all 147 polling stations of the constituency in three days.

Besides Ahmad and Azeem, all the candidates of the constituency including Saeed Ahmad Virk of the PPP and independent Nisar Akbar Bhatti participated in the recount process. Five polling agents of each candidate and presiding officer of each polling station also took part in the process.

The recount was held under strict security arrangements in the office of the district and sessions judge/district returning officer.

The RO forwarded the result of the recount to the Election Commission for an official announcement.

PML-N workers celebrated the victory outside the chamber of the sessions judge after the announcement of unofficial result.

Azeem had already announced challenging the process of recounting before higher courts irrespective of the outcome.

Mehar Wajid Azeem had lost his election to Ahmad in by-election held on Aug 22.
