LAHORE, May 2: Punjab police claim to have arrested 841 hardened and most wanted proclaimed offenders during a two-hour general hold-up across the province.

According to a handout issued on Thursday, police captured 226 court absconders during the hold-up late on Wednesday night.

Under the Prohibition Ordinance, 202 cases were registered against violators and more than 28kg hashish and 2,352 grams of heroin were seized from them.

Under the Arms Ordinance, 588 accused were arrested with 394 illegal weapons and 398 cases were registered against them.

As many as 14,869 motorcycles were checked and 2,378 illegal and without number plate motorcycles were impounded.

Also, 6,014 vehicles were checked and 52 suspected and without number plate vehicles were impounded.

POSTINGS OF CHOICE: City Traffic Police have decided to post absent wardens at places of their choice within the city to ensure their presence on duty and improve the traffic system in the provincial capital.

Chief Traffic Officer Sohail Chaudhry has approved this policy and directed the officials in-charge of circles to prepare lists of wardens who were in the habit of remaining absent from duty and want to get posted in areas of their choice.

Under the new policy, wardens would be given three choices for posting and the competent authority would transfer them to one of the area of their choice.
