KARACHI, July 8: More than a dozen people, including four political activists and a police officer, were killed in separate incidents of violence across the city on Monday, police said.

Most of the killings were reported in districts west and south, according to the officials.

They said that an assistant sub-inspector was standing with a political activist when they were killed in a drive-by shooting near Sector 5-L in New Karachi.

The wounded ASI Aijaz Khokhar and Muttahida Qaumi Movement worker Kamran Bandhani were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where both were pronounced dead on arrival, the police said.

“Mr Bandhani was a worker of the MQM while the ASI was his friend,” said Bilal Colony SHO Changez Khan.

He said the ASI was under suspension. Tension prevailed in the locality following the murder.

Three men kidnapped, killed

Three young men were kidnapped, tortured and shot dead in separate incidents, police said.

Armed men riding motorcycles brought a young man to Ghanchi Para and shot him dead, said the Napier police. The victim sustained two gunshot wounds in his head and chest and died before he could be provided medical aid.

The corpse was shifted to the Edhi morgue for want of identification after a post-mortem examination at the Civil Hospital Karachi.

In the Mewashah graveyard, a young man was shot dead, police said. “The victim looked like Kutchhi,” said Bilal Colony SHO Bilal Raza.

The bullet-riddled body of a young man, stuffed in a gunny bag was found at a garbage dump near Askari Park, said the PIB police.

He looked like Baloch, the police said.

The corpse was shifted to the Edhi morgue for want of identification, they added.

ST activist, ‘attacker’ killed

A worker of the Sunni Tehreek and one of the attackers belonging to his rival party were killed in Surjani, police said.

The police added that two armed motorcyclists attacked 28-year-old Zahid Ali at his shop in Yusuf Goth. As he was shot at, he took out his pistol and fired at one of the attackers, identified as Mohammad Imran, 45. Both the shopkeeper and the attacker received gunshot wounds, while the latter’s accomplice escaped.

The wounded were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where they died, the police said.

“Mr Ali was an ST worker, while his alleged killer who belonged to its supposed rival party had come from Qasba Colony to murder him,” said Surjani SHO Shabbir Ahmed.

Two killed in Orangi

Two MQM activists were later shot dead in Orangi, police said.

The police added that Yasin aka Kana, Majid Siddiqi, Adnan and Sultan were standing at a weekly bazaar near Kati Pahari in Sector 1-D where armed motorcyclists attacked them on Monday night.The wounded were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced Yasin and Majid dead. The other two persons were provided first aid, said Orangi SHO Ghulam Nabi Afridi.

“The victims, residents of Sector 1-C area of Orangi, were workers of the MQM,” added the police officer.

Fisherman shot dead

A young fisherman was shot dead in Kalri, police said.

They added that Jalal Sharif, 28, was parking his motorcycle near his residence in Street-7, Agra Taj Colony when two armed motorcyclists approached him. One of them slapped him on his face while another pumped a single bullet into his body. He died while being taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, the police said.

“The victim was killed over personal enmity,” said Kalri SHO Haji Sanaullah.

Watchman killed in Clifton

The body of a watchman was found in Clifton, the area police said. They added that the body of Mohammad Bashir, 55, was found in a bungalow in Clifton’s Block-2 where he along with another watchman, Shahbaz, worked. “Shahbaz has been missing since the murder,” said an official at the Boat Basin police station. He said the victim was hit with a blunt weapon. He added the bungalow owner lived in Islamabad.

Two youths found shot dead

Two youngsters were found shot dead in Rifah-i-Aam Society on Monday night, according to the Al-Falah police.

A pistol was found in a hand of one of the victims, aged between 17 and 20 years, said the police.
