LAHORE, June 17: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah says former army ruler Pervez Musharraf will definitely be tried for abrogating the Constitution.

Talking to the media outside the Punjab Assembly building here on Monday, Mr Sana said Musharraf deserved to be tried in a treason case for abrogating the Constitution and a case against him would surely be filed in this respect.

It was up to the court of law what penalty it imposed on the former dictator, he said.

About the accountability of those who ‘emptied’ the kitty through corruption, he said the first round of accountability of such elements was held by the masses through May 11 elections while the second one would be introduced through a law that would establish an independent, impartial and transparent system for the purpose.

About the local government system, the law minister said the government would try its best to hold local council polls within six months under a new system that would empower the masses at village and community levels.

PTI: Opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Mian Mahmoodur Rashid has termed the budget a traditional financial plan that lacks any vision.

He said it was the general impression that the budget would carry certain pro-people initiatives, but no new scheme was announced and the old project like sasti roti scheme was replaced with a new name like sasta ata (cheap wheat flour).

He said keeping in view the inflation rate, government employees should have been given at least 25 per cent pay raise but the government announced only 10 per cent hike.

Similarly, the working class was expecting that the PML-N government would raise the minimum wages to Rs15,000 from the present Rs9,000 per month. But they were shocked to see just Rs1,000 per month hike.
